Our story

Happy Feet make Happy People

Happy Feet School is a distinguished private preschool situated in Pohkseh, Shillong. Since its inception in March 2012, our institution has been dedicated to nurturing children aged 3 and above. Our educational approach centres around fostering creativity and learning through play, while instilling positive social adaptability in our students across diverse circumstances.

Happy Feet transcends the realm of a mere Playschool. It is a secure, welcoming, and nurturing haven of curiosity where children are encouraged to flourish and evolve through engaging and developmentally fitting endeavours.

When our students complete their time with us, they are well-prepared for formal school — confidently embracing new experiences, with self-assurance, strong interpersonal skills, and a well-developed vocabulary.

We go beyond ordinary playschool. Happy Feet is a secure, welcoming haven where children flourish through engaging, developmentally appropriate activities — balancing structured learning with the freedom to play and explore.

Our philosophy

Learning that comes from doing

We firmly believe that every child has the potential to succeed when given the opportunity. We recognise that children's learning is enriched through firsthand encounters — so our curriculum is designed around exactly that.

🎨

Play-based learning

Art, music, storytelling, and hands-on exploration are woven into every school day — stimulating imagination and nurturing a genuine love of learning from the very start.

💪

Whole-child development

We develop gross motor skills, fine motor control, and sensory perception through purposeful activity — building the whole child, not just academic ability.

🤝

Social & emotional growth

We nurture resilience, emotional intelligence, and positive social adaptability — so children are ready for new experiences and the challenges ahead in formal school.

🏠

A safe second home

Happy Feet is designed to feel warm and secure. We actively address separation anxiety with patience and care, ensuring every child settles happily into school life.

📖

School readiness

Children leave Happy Feet with self-assurance, strong interpersonal skills, and a well-developed vocabulary — confident and fully prepared for Class 1 and beyond.

🔄

Current best practices

We stay current with evolving educational practices and trends, ensuring children receive a modern, thoughtful approach to early childhood education.

Where a Dream Found Its Home

Every meaningful journey begins with a dream. For me, that dream was simple yet profound — to become a teacher and to create a place where children could discover the joy of learning.

I made the difficult decision to leave a secure government job because my heart belonged in a classroom. For twelve wonderful years, I had the privilege of teaching at St. Edmund’s, where I learnt as much from my students as I hoped they learnt from me.

Teaching was never merely a profession I chose; it was a calling I followed.

Coming from a family of teachers, perhaps this calling was always a part of me. My mother and my aunt were both teachers, and education was woven into the fabric of our home. Little did I know that one day I would have the opportunity to build a school of my own.

With the invaluable support and encouragement of Mrs N Mordani, we began to imagine what Happy Feet could become. There were countless conversations, plans, ideas and, eventually, the courage to turn those ideas into something real. But every dream needs someone who believes in it as deeply as you do — for me, that person has always been my husband, my greatest strength and my constant support.

Together, we spent nearly a year bringing Happy Feet to life. There was a special poignancy in building the school on the very grounds where my mother had once dreamt of creating a school of her own. In many ways, Happy Feet became the beautiful continuation of a dream that began with her.

We poured our hearts into every detail — from the design of the classrooms to the indoor and outdoor play spaces. We wanted every corner to invite curiosity, imagination, movement and joy. We weren’t simply constructing a school; we were creating an environment in which childhood could be celebrated.

I have always believed that a child should look forward to coming to school. A school should be much more than a place where lessons are taught. It should be a place where children feel known, heard, cherished and safe. To me, Happy Feet is a child’s second home — a place where little feet can wander, little hands can create, little minds can question, and little hearts can feel secure.

And learning flourishes best when it is surrounded by warmth, encouragement and love. That belief has been the foundation of Happy Feet from the very beginning.

I believe that before we can teach a child what to learn, we must first teach them to love learning.

What started as a personal dream has grown into a community of children, teachers and families who share that same belief — that childhood should be happy, learning should be joyful, and every child deserves a place where they can grow at their own pace and become the very best version of themselves.

It is a dream born from a teacher’s heart, built with love, and entrusted with the most precious years of a child’s life. And every morning, when those little feet walk through our doors, I am reminded of why the dream was worth following.

Happy Feet is more than a school. It is a dream born from a teacher's heart, built with love, and entrusted with the most precious years of a child's life.

At Happy Feet since 2012

"If a child enters the school gates happily and leaves the premises reluctantly — that is a sure sign that the school is a happy place."

My spiritual Master once said: if a child enters the school gates happily and leaves the premises reluctantly, that is a sure sign that the school is a happy place. This is exactly what happens at Happy Feet — our children come eagerly to school and are reluctant to go back home.

When I retired from St Edmund’s A.M. School in 2010, I was a little apprehensive of what retired life would look like. Marnie came as a blessing when she asked me to be a part of Happy Feet — I couldn’t have asked for more. With the support of my sons and my late husband, everything fell into place.

We never pressurise our children. We let them move at their own pace, keeping in mind that each child is unique and different. School is therapeutic for most of us — we forget all our worries once we are among the children. It is so gratifying when they put their arms around us. They are so full of love and affection. It brings tears to our eyes.

May God continue to shower His blessings on Happy Feet.
